and
 Organization

The aim is to set out and evaluate a tool for environmental education which will lead to a more sustainable development.

Three years  ,,The Green circle schools” project took place at Gargþdai „Krantas“ secondary school in those sectors:
Health,
Flora and Fauna,
Areas worthy protection,
Recycling,
Schoolyard.

All the activities were designed in organizational, integrated into lessons or extra curricular activities. Students of all age groups were involved in them.

In 2004 schools started to collect and work up the material for the final project edition - the book and the CD about the ecological education. The material was presented, summarized and chosen in Denmark in April. Each school prepared 10 pages about 10 stops next to each participated school. Our common edition „The Green Circle Journey“ was  presented in English and in mother tongue of each country at our last meeting in Latvia. All schools received a printed edition and a CD rom. The edition is available at the homepage of Euroregion Baltic:  http://w1.artisan.se/datastugan/site04/book/index.htm .

The book „Green Circle Journey“ would be a great material for studying ecological education of different countries.

The project Walking was connected with the book.  Each school (Kurzemite Primary School, Latvia; Hasle School, Denmark; Zelenogradsk Secondary School, Russia; Angelstad Primary School, Sweden and „Krantas“ Secondary School, Lithuania) walked the distance ( it is about 1700 kilometers), which is mentioned in it, between our schools.

The same schools collaborated for another project and prepared a recipes book for the common project „Health. Healthy national food“.

Krantas Secondary School and Angelstad primary school made a teachers exchange during the last year.

During the project years a number of common projects have been carried out and the GCS schools chose their best project „Green Circle School Golden Projects“. All the GCS partner schools received their certificate as an evidence of their good work.

One of our school golden projects is „School Olympic Games“. From 2 to 6 June of the 2004 the international School Olympic Games were held at Krantas Secondary School in Gargþdai. It was the final event on the cooperation within the sector health. 29 teams participated in different events: running, long jumping, camping, throwing, swimming, weight lifting, rope pulling, and basketball relay, aerobic, running around Gargþdai, Frisbee, competitions and got awards and medals. The teams came from IV Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace Poland, Kurzemite Primary School Latvia, Slotts School Sweden.

The „School Olympic Games“ now is a tradition at our school. The first Olympiad was held by school's sport and wellness club in spring of 2002 year. On the 21st of May in 2004 year primary school students decided to join to the international Olympic movement and held Small School OlympicGames . The participants of it were primary school students, their parents and teachers. On the 29st of April in 2006 year we organized the third „School Olympic Games“. For the primary students it was second sports competition where they could measure strength by himself.

Another golden project of our school is „The Earth Week“.

The „Krantas“ primary school children was successfuly involved in GCS project too.

They have created themselves the web page
,,Green page (,,Þaliasis tinklalapis“)
There are a lot of pictures. All information is in Lithuanian. On the 19st of April in 2005 year this project was presented to other GCS partners at the conference in Denmark, Bornholm island.

Later was made

It is a multilingual web page created by teachers and students. It is possible to exchange experiences about forest’s role in ecological education, view flora and fauna of the forests, parks around the schools of the GCS project. (http://greenwebie.atspace.com )

Our school starts environmental work before GCS project even.

In Gargþdai ,,Krantas“ secondary school in 1991 was found the museum of geology ,,Gargþdas“ . The initiators of the museum were the members of the Geology club and their leader Sigita Ivanauskienë. The club ,,Gargþdas“ was named after our town Gargþdai. ,,Gargþdas“ means ,,pebble, gravel, broken stone“. Pebble is a small stone, especially one made smooth by water. You can download zipped presentation The museum of geology ,,Gargþdas“

Being a school within the „Green circle“ is honorable mission.
